History
The Charles Nicolle has been created in 1987 under the name of French civil hospital.It will change name for the first time in 1946, when it will be called “Charles Nicolle Hospital” in memor of the 1928 year nobel prize in medicine and phisiology who was also the manager of the Pasteur Institute of Tunis from 1903 to 1936.
In 1995 it will become a public hospital and this signify a status change: from a public office to an administrative and business one, this define again a new name in management field, even remaining a public and social institution whose main aim is:
The prevention and improvement of men health and all population
The Charles Nicolle Hospital has a pavillions structure and it is composed by thirty buildings
alloted on a field of thirty hectares. This kind of structures, despite the management troubles that is required is more human and the stay in the hospital is more pleasent both for patients and staff.
Hospital university centre of the first level with a national vocation feature the Charles Nicolle Hospital is one of the most important in Tunisia, it receives illness not only from Tunis but even from the other inner areas of the country.
It is an hospital in which are represented almost all the medical and surgical specialities:it includes 17 divisions for the admission,21for the outer advices,a casualty, 7 laboratories, a radiology division and a chemesty.Apart from its national and polyvalent feature,the hospital is marked by its dimensions: on the grounds of number of beds-1025,of which now only 900 are available because of inner works-can be considered the biggest hospital in Tunisia. The hospital is distinguished even by its pioneristic vocation in some fields:it takes in the first specialized virological exam centre,the only one division of congenital illnesses and the only one in which there is the pediatric nephrology speciality.
Side by side with the care services,it guarantees the essential mission of training in coolaboration with the nearest medicine university in Tunis.
In 2002,for example,133 residents and 139 inners have carried out their training activities and it is a field of training for the paramedic and technical staff such as( nurses, technicians, engineer etc...)
